Mountain Music Show 6/4/13

With the 11th Annual Henry Reed Memorial Fiddlers Convention coming up June 14-15 in Glen Lyn, VA, this week I had a special Henry Reed theme for the Mountain Music Show. Chris Via joined me in the studio to discuss the festival and Henry Reed tunes. Chris was the driving force to create the Henry Reed Memorial Fiddlers Convention back in 2003, and has studied Henry's music extensively. In 2009 Chris got together with Henry's sons Neal, James, Gene, and Dean for a CD project called Giles County Favorites. The point of the project was to play a set of Henry Reed tunes that were true to Alan Jabbour's original Henry Reed recordings in 1966-67. So for this show we present the Henry Reed recording followed by the recording by Chris and the Reed Family Band.

Chris was the original host of the Mountain Music Show and is currently the owner of the Old Va Smokehouse (which is a proud sponsor of the Mountain Music Show).
