First Annual Giles Fiddler’s Convention

First Annual Giles Fiddler’s Convention
Whitt-Riverbend Park – Pearisburg, Virginia
Thursday, May 19 through Sunday May 22, 2011

Join us for a weekend of music, camping, and canoeing on the majestic New River!

WNRV will be on-site all day on Saturday May 21 and will have some live broadcasts from the festival between 3 and 8 PM.

Half Acre Promotions is a local cooperative booking partnership focused on showcasing and preserving the Appalachian music heritage of Southwestern Virginia. We have hosted several successful music events, including two seasons of bluegrass and old time music at the Newport Jamboree.

Working closely with the Town of Pearisburg and Giles County Tourism on the convention, we anticipate a positive weekend focused of family entertainment with music, canoeing, and primitive camping. The beautiful 30 acre Whitt-Riverbend Park on the New River will be transformed into a community event with bluegrass and old time competitions, activities for kids, and fun on the river for all ages.

Canoe tours, both short jaunts for the inexperienced and long tours for river veterans, will be available from our friends at Tangent Outfitters. Vending so far includes Old Virginia Smokehouse, Easy Chair Coffee Shop, and The Cellar.

Musicians! We will be offering $2000 in cash prize money, complete with all the traditional old time and bluegrass categories AND we will also offer one non-traditional band category. Youth competitions and dance contests will also be available at the convention. Registration time will be 9am-3pm, Friday and Saturday of the event. And if you compete, you will be reimbursed your entry fee!
