Broadcasting from the bank of the scenic New River, WNRV AM 990 The Ridge plays the best in traditional and current bluegrass and old-time music. Our 5 KW AM station is located along the New River in Giles County between Narrows and Pearisburg, VA.

WNRV's mission is to preserve the traditions of bluegrass and old-time music for future generations. The New River Valley region has played an important role in the history and development of music, and WNRV has a deep and rich history in the local community. We are an active partner in the community, and continue to promote both the music and local events. The 2011 basketball season has started, we'll be bringing you plenty of games from both Narrows and Giles, including the Narrows Athletic Fund Annual Christmas Basketball Tournament.

Now available is a special WNRV package that contains all of the recordings for the 2011 Spartan and Green Wave Varsity football games, including the playoffs. • We'll have live basketball coverage of the Giles-Auburn boys game on Friday February 3. We'll also cover the Giles-East Montgomery girls (January 31) and Narrows-Fort Chiswell girls (February 3), these will be replayed on February 4 starting at 10 AM. Tune in for the exciting local sports action on AM 990 or our live stream.
• We hosted a visit at the station from the Pembroke Pack 460 Cub Scouts on Saturday January 28. This visit will count toward a merit badge for them!
• Our New River Valley Jamboree show had a live set from Jimmy Costa on Saturday January 28, Jimmy did an Uncle Dave Macon show. This was broadcast live from the Old Virginia Smokehouse in Pearisburg. Tune in for great live music on AM 990 or our live stream.
• We had live basketball broadcasts for Narrows-Montcalm boys on Thursday January 26 and Giles-Radford boys on Friday January 27. We also covered the GIles-Glenvar boys and Narrows-Montcalm girls (these were replayed on January 28).
• On January 21 our New River Valley Jamboree show had a live set from Roscoe P and Coal Train at the Old Virginia Smokehouse.
• We had live basketball broadcasts for Giles-Auburn girls on January 17 and Narrows-Grayson County girls on January 18. We also covered the Narrows-Grayson County boys game on January 17 (this and Giles-Auburn game were replayed on January 21 at 10 AM following our Speaking of Sports show).
• On January 14 our New River Valley Jamboree show broadcast a live set from the Giles Mountain String Band at the Old Virginia Smokehouse in Pearisburg.
• We've added 2 new shows to our Wednesday lineup: Del McCoury's Blue Side of Town on Wednesday at 1 PM (every week), and the Bluegrass Unlimited Top 30 Countdown with Lee Michael Dempsey from 10 AM - noon (second Wednesday each month).
• We had live broadcasts of the Giles-Graham girls (January 9) and Narrows-Graham boys (January 10) basketball games. We also covered the Narrows-Graham girls and Giles-Floyd boys on January 11 and replayed these on January 14 following our Speaking of Sports show. • On Saturday January 7 our New River Valley Jamboree show had a live set from the Black Twig Pickers that was broadcast on-site from the Old Virginia Smokehouse in Pearisburg.
• We had live coverage again this year of the entire Narrows Athletic Fund Annual Christmas Basketball Tournament on December 15-17. Here is the complete schedule with the results.
• On December 10 our New River Valley Jamboree show had a live set from Sugar Run broadcast on-site from the Old Virginia Smokehouse in Pearisburg.
• We had live coverage of the second Narrows-Giles girls (December 7) and boys (December 9) varsity basketball games. Both games will be replayed on Saturday December 10 following our Speaking of Sports show. Tune in for all the exciting basketball action on AM 990 or our live stream.
• We had live coverage of the Narrows-Giles girls basketball game on December 1 (replayed on December 3) and the Narrows-Giles boys basketball game on December 2.
• We covered the Giles-Dayspring (November 29) and Narrows-East Montgomery (November 30) boys basketball games (replayed on December 3).
• We had live coverage of the Giles-Glenvar (November 11) and Giles-Gretna (November 18) playoff games, and replayed each one the following Saturday. This concluded our 2011 high school football season.
• We recorded a live set from the Giles Mountain String Band at the Old Virginia Smokehouse on Saturday November 12 and played this on the New River Valley Jamboree at 3 PM on November 19.
