Broadcasting on AM 990 and FM 97.3 from the banks of the scenic New River, WNRV The Ridge plays the best in traditional and current bluegrass and old-time music. Our station is located along the New River in Giles County between Narrows and Pearisburg, VA.

We hit our 72nd anniversary on August 24, 2025! Our original license was granted on that day in 1953. We’re still broadcasting out of the same building along the New River. We had a 60th party in 2013 to celebrate our 60 year mark. Here is the history of WNRV.

WNRV’s mission is to preserve the traditions of bluegrass and old-time music for future generations. The New River Valley region has played an important role in the history and development of music, and WNRV has a deep and rich history in the local community. We are an active partner in the community, and continue to promote both the music and local events.   • Football is back! We’ll cover every varsity game for both Narrows and Giles again this year. Check out the complete 2026 football schedule. We have several great sports sponsor packages available, contact us now to get on-board for this season!
  • We’ll be live on-site with Speaking of Sports Saturday June 6 at the 41st Annual Pearisburg Festival in the Park. The show will be broadcast live on-site 9-10 AM.
  • Tuesday June 2 we’ll have a live in-studio interview with Gary Fields at 10:30 AM to discuss the upcoming 41st Annual Pearisburg Festival in the Park.
  • The 2026 Henry Reed Memorial Celebration will be June 11-13 at Larry’s Landing Campground in Narrows. Come join us for a weekend of music and fellowship right along the New River!
  • We’ll take Speaking of Sports on the road Saturday May 2 at the 23rd Annual Giles Kid’s Fishing Day at the Narrows Park. The show will be broadcast live on-site 9-10 AM.

  • We’ll have 2 Narrows-Giles County Clash basketball doubleheaders (JV and varsity): the Giles at Narrows girls on Monday December 15 at 5:30 PM and the Narrows at Giles boys on Wednesday December 17 at 5:30 PM PM.
  • We’ll start our basketball season with 2 live James Monroe at Narrows doubleheaders (JV and varsity): the girls on Thursday December 11 at 6 PM and the boys on Saturday December 13 at 3 PM.
  • Our girls volleyball playoff coverage continues with the Giles-Middlessex state final on Saturday November 22 at 2:15 PM. We previously had the Patrick Henry at Giles state quarterfinal on November 15 and the Auburn at Giles state semifinal on November 18.
  • For the second week of the football playoffs, George Wythe at Giles will be live at 7 PM on Friday November 21.
  • For the first week of the football playoffs, George Wythe at Narrows will be live at 7 PM on Friday November 14. Auburn at Giles will be recorded.
  • We’ll continue our girls volleyball playoff coverage with the Giles-Auburn region final on Tuesday November 11 at 7 PM at Eastern Montgomery High School. We had the Giles-Bland County region semifinal on Thursday November 6 at 7:30 PM at Blacksburg High School.
  • For the final week of the regular football season, Narrows at Bath County will be live at 7 PM on Friday November 7. George Wythe at Giles will be recorded. Check out the complete 2025 football schedule
  • We’ll start our girls volleyball playoff coverage with the region quarterfinals on Monday November 3 at 6 PM: Grayson County at Narrows will be live and Parry McCluer at Giles will be recorded.
  • We’ll be cranking out the spooky tunes again again this year at Operation Save Halloween 7.0 at the Giles County Sheriff’s Office in Pearisburg 3-5:30 PM on October 31. Here is the radio ad.
  • Our Speaking of Sports show will be live on-site 9-10 AM on Saturday October 18 at the Lee’s Body Shop 1st Annual Car Show & Cruise-in in Pearisburg.
  • We’ll take Speaking of Sports on the road Saturday October 3 at the Pearisburg Scarecrow Festival. The show will be broadcast live on-site 9-10 AM.
  • We’ll have a live broadcast of the Giles at Narrows girls varsity volleyball match Monday September 15 at 7 PM. The 3 County Clash matches are being done as a benefit to raise funds for the families of Corey Thompson & Sally Cooke. Middle school starts 4:30, JV 5:30, & varsity 7 PM.
