Broadcasting from the bank of the scenic New River, WNRV AM 990 The Ridge plays the best in traditional and current bluegrass and old-time music. Our 5 KW AM station is located along the New River in Giles County between Narrows and Pearisburg, VA.

WNRV is now under new ownership and management.
Our purchase of the station from Perception Media Group, Inc has been completed. Our team is locally based and has strong ties to the community, find out more information about the station and team.

WNRV's mission is to preserve the traditions of bluegrass and old-time music for future generations. The New River Valley region has played an important role in the history and development of music, and WNRV has a deep and rich history in the local community. We intend to be an even more active partner in the community, and to continue to promote both the music and local events.

Recent News

  • We had live coverage of the New River Post 68 baseball games in the American Legion Tournament from Kiwanis Field in Salem, VA on July 16 & 17.
  • On June 11-12 we broadcast live from the 8th Annual Henry Reed Memorial Fiddlers Convention in Glen Lyn, VA (flyer). On Friday we brought you all 5 hours of the featured bands' performances live. On Saturday we broadcast the individual & band competitions live, which was 6 more hours of great live music.
  • We broadcast live again this year at Celco Federal Credit Union's Customer Appreciation Day on June 4 from 4-5 PM. This special on-site Speaking of Sports show started off with an interview with Hokie defensive coordinator Bud Foster. Bud then came back later in the show to chat some more with Steve & Reggie.
  • We covered the Giles County Kids Fishing Day event again this year with a special 2 hour Speaking of Sports show on May 15. We broadcast live 9-11 AM from the Narrow Town Park. The interviews included Sheriff Millirons, Game Warden Mullins, & several of the kids who were having a blast learning to fish.
  • We now have a locally-programmed music show called the Mountain Music Show. Each week Chris Via will focus on traditional old-time music from 2-3 PM on Tuesday (with a repeat from 6-7 PM on Thursday).   • We had live coverage of 26 high school basketball games this past season (regular season & playoffs). These included the Christmas Basketball Classic/Narrows Athletic Fund Tournament (December 2009/January 2010), 16 regular season Giles & Narrows games (January & February 2010), the entire 6-game Mountain Empire District tournament (February 2010), & all the Narrows girls' and boys' playoff games (February & March 2010).   • We now have an Events Calendar that you can use to keep track of all the WNRV and community events (see our Events page for info on how to get your event added). All of our live sports broadcasts will now be listed on the Events Calendar.

  • WNRV was featured by the Virginian Leader newspaper in their Business Profile section on January 6, 2010.
  • The WNRV 2009 Holiday Concert was held on December 5th and featured Donna Ulisse & the Poor Mountain Boys, plus local favorites Hans Creek String Band and State Line Bluegrass. All three bands put on a great show, thanks to everyone that braved the weather to attend. Here are the details.
