WNRV has been proudly serving the New River Valley for almost 60 years. WNRV is a 5 kilowatt AM station which began broadcasting in 1953 from the same location along the New River where it resides today.

As of November 2009, WNRV is back under local ownership and management!

Recent History
WNRV was purchased in 1999 by Perception Media Group, Inc to simulcast their Roanoke, VA gospel station WWWR-AM 910 (3WR). In the summer of 2007, Gary Jolicoeur and Dennis Welch took over operation of WNRV under a lease management agreement with Perception Media Group. Gary and Dennis switched the format to bluegrass and the station went back to operating independently in July 2007 (Roanoke Times article). This rebirth of WNRV was welcomed by the community, and the bluegrass format was a natural fit for the region. Dennis assumed sole operation of the station in October 2008.

In October 2009, Perception Media Group agreed to sell WNRV to New River Interactive Media, LLC, a partnership between Dennis and Terry Reed. The FCC approved the transfer of the station license and the sale was completed on November 25, 2009.

This sale reestablishes local ownership and management for WNRV. Our new management team consists of Dean Reed, Terry Reed, and Dennis Welch. Dean and Terry are Giles County natives, and Dennis has been operating WNRV since mid-2007. For more information on the team, please look at the profile.
